Jan Evans and her husband Noah have resided in Santa Barbara County for the past 48 years. Both of their children were born and raised in Santa Barbara and attended the local schools, graduating to go on to colleges elsewhere.
Jan represented the Santa Barbara County real estate community for nearly 20 years as the Vice President of Government Relations, tracking and analyzing local land use policies and legislative issues from the municipal to the national level.
At present, Jan has served as the Executive Director for the Santa Barbara County Flower & Nursery Growers Association for the past seven years, assisting them in their efforts to temper devastating land use policies that effectively could put the industry out of business, and providing strategic advice and actions at the local and State levels. Jan is currently in her second year term as the President of R.I.T.A., a Federated Republican Women’s Club.
Jan has served on the Board of Directors of the Santa Barbara County Taxpayers Association since 2001, and served two years as President of the Association in 2003/2004, aiding the entity’s efforts to advocate for smaller, more efficient and streamlined local government, with the intent of reducing waste and monetary costs to local taxpayers.
Jan has served as legislative advisor to the Santa Barbara County Farm Bureau; past Chairman of the Legislative Advocates Committee for the California Association of Realtors; member of the Steering Committee for the Legislative Committee of the State Realtor Association; and, member of the Leadership Team for the Local Government Relations Committee of the State Association. As Vice President of Government Relations had oversight of the local Board of Realtors Political Action Committee (BORPAC), Issues Mobilization Political Action Committee (IMPAC), and served as liaison to the California Real Estate Political Action Committee(CREPAC). Has served as the local Association of Realtors Congressional Contact for the National Association of Realtors.
Former member of the American Society of Association Executives. Served as private sector coordinator for the County Development Services Task Force; member of the County California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Review Committee; and as coordinator for the local monthly Allied Industry meetings. Was appointed by the Mayor of the City of Santa Barbara in 1979 to a Blue Ribbon Task Force, with the responsibility of drafting a Housing Element for the City’s Local Coastal Plan.
